“Yoga is the destroyer of pain”
-Bhagavad Gita

Recognize your stress cycles – Yoga teaches us that everything in nature – including us – moves in cycles. When your body is in an stressed phase, don’t strive for peak condition – this leads to even more stress. Avoid strenuous asanas (yoga postures) and do more meditation. Try this pose (http://www.yogajournal.com/poses/690)
after the two exercises below for optimal results.

Tension-release exercise – If you feel uptight, lie on your back in a quiet place for five minutes. Inhaling, flex your feet, tighten your thighs, and tense your buttocks. Let go as you exhale. Then inhale and tense your arms and hands, lifting your shoulders towards your ears. let go as you exhale. Next, inhale and tighten your abdomen and chest. Let go as you exhale. Finally, tense your entire body, including your face, and hold your breath. Exhale as if deflating a balloon before rolling over, getting up and drinking a glass of water.

Store within – As you sit or lie in relaxation after the tension-release exercise, close your eyes and guide your mind back to a special time – perhaps a cherished summer holiday. Bathe in the comforting feelings that the memories evoke and store this energy to draw upon when you need sustenance.

Want to feel more balanced ?
We use a “Still Point Induction”
technique in CranioSacral Therapy to encourage the activity of your body’s ability to balance itself. This can be done anywhere on the body, however the effect is strongest when done at the back of the head.

Gentle pressure is applied with the intention of encouraging action of the parasympathetic portion of your nervous system. This takes care of functions such as rest and digestion.
If you have been feeling stressed, your body would have been
using the sympathetic portion of the nervous system ( fight, flight, fright responses ).

During the serenity of the still point, which usually lasts a few minutes, your body goes into a wonderful ‘ pause ‘ mode. This allows it to recharge. Using a Still Point Inducer sold me on CranioSacral Therapy. It was immediately effective and I love the feeling of empowerment I experience when regulating my own healing process. I have been doing self- induced Still Points almst daily for 10 years, usually for 15 – 20 minutes.

I hope you also enjoy this and many other benefits from CranioSacral Therapy. Please feel free to contact me with your questions and/or feedback, my treatment rates are $ 1.00/ minute. I also highly recommend www.upledger.com for more information. You can easily learn to give yourself a CranioSacral Still point, either manually or with a Still Point Inducer. These are available from the Upledger Institute and The Relax the Back Store. Best of health to you!

Greetings!

Join us April 21st for an afternoon of community building, connection and workshop in preparation for Belonging: A Victoria Youth Homelessness Summit in October, 2012. We will be sharing information on our initiative and then creatively making use of our time by collectively participating in a World Café session lead by local youth empowerment leader Mike Sheehan, owner of Beatboard Education and Training. What’s a World Café you ask. Great question.

The World Café is a powerful method for bringing people together for lively conversations around questions that matter. In the World Café, “there is an idea that when people gather and are engaged in an issue or question that they care about, in an authentic, open-hearted and open-minded way, that collective wisdom emerges.” (Samantha Tan)

“…the simple idea on which the World Café was founded: powerful questions that really matter; cross-pollinating ideas in an informal environment, a natural environment…When you get more lenses, or more perspectives on the whole, a greater intelligence can reveal itself, so as the conversation unfolds it goes deeper and deeper and deeper towards the essence of what’s really important for the group.”
-Juanaita Brown, World Café co-founder

We will be focusing on what makes a healthy community, specific planning and visioning for the upcoming community summit in October and questions about how to address youth homelessness from the ground, as a community of empowered citizens.

“Using seven design principles and a simple method, the World Café is a powerful social technology for engaging people in conversations that matter, offering an effective antidote to the fast-paced fragmentation and lack of connection in today’s world.

Based on the understanding that conversation is the core process that drives personal, business, and organizational life, the World Café is more than a method, a process, or technique – it’s a way of thinking and being together sourced in a philosophy of conversational leadership.” (http://www.theworldcafe.com/about.html)

Event Schedule:

1-2:15pm – Welcome, Ice Breaker and Introduction
2:30-5pm – World Cafe
5-6pm – Social and Music with Grandpa Phunk (The Soul Selector)
